Spirituality Concerns

One of the beautiful things about traveling is that it brings us into contact with people who are very different from us— people who experience the world differently, and make meaning of their lives in another way. If we are open, it makes sense that this would challenge our own belief system, about everything from gender norms to traditions to faith.

It is good to question these things, and to see how many things are constructed by our society and are not true everywhere, to everyone. But this breakdown of meaning in our own life can send us into a tailspin.

Have you thought:

  • I am unsure what I know to be true anymore.

  • I’m not sure if the God that I thought would be there for me exists, and if he/she does, I’m not sure who they are.

  • Nothing seems to make sense anymore.

  • How do I move forward, or make “x” decision, when I am uncertain about so much?

You are not alone in this. There is a paradox here— humans need meaning, and it is also healthy for us to challenge our meaning-making. Together, we can help you find what is true, and find comfort/ease in the places where we may never know.
